The Garage48 SpaceTech 2017 hackathon is a development weekend with the aim of making prototypes of products and services based on remote sensing, satellite navigation, hardware and social media in just 48 hours. To create novel and innovative solutions, participants are asked to combine as many different space technologies as possible.

The Garage48 SpaceTech starts at 17.00 on Friday evening at the Physicum building of the Institute of Physics of the University of Tartu. The event begins with participants pitching about 30 to 40 ideas on stage. Each idea is then displayed on a wall and participants can choose their favourite idea and team. About 12-15 ideas are selected for teams to start working on.

Facilities, mentors, food and drinks are provided for all teams working on their projects over the weekend. At the end of the 48-hour hackathon, working prototypes of the products or services are presented to a professional jury who select the winners in different categories.

The hackathon is supported by experts from the European Space Agency and the European GNSS Agency.

The event is part of the European Space Week in Tallinn.
